Ages 6 to 18 years

Our progressions classes offer the perfect opportunity to continue your dance education with minimal commitment. We have a variety of experience levels and styles to choose from, and all classes are taught by highly-trained Dance Educators. Performance and technique classes are available.

 

Our Progressions Program offers dancers the opportunity to dance freely for fun with minimal commitment. Dancers in this program take advantage of all of the social, educational and health benefits that are associated with dancing. Hip Hop

Full-Year Performance Classes // Ages 6 to 18 years

Hip hop dance is an umbrella term used to refer to street dance styles (e.g. breaking, locking, popping, etc.) primarily performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture. Our Progressions hip hop classes are offered for dancers aged 6 to 18 years and the curriculum is carefully designed to suit each student’s age and ability. We have both co-ed and boys only classes that will dance in our annual year-end recital on June 13 and 14, 2023 at the Conexus Arts Centre.

Dress Code: Girls

Shoes: Indoor white sole runners

Apparel: Comfortable clothing (no blue jeans)

Hair: Pulled off the face

Ballet

Full-Year Technique Classes // Ages 6 to 18 years

Ballet is a classical dance form grounded in grace and technique, and comes together to create flowing patterns to allow for expression through movement. Our Progressions ballet classes start with technique work at the barre followed by center work. Classes are offered for dancers aged 6 to 18 years and the curriculum is carefully designed to suit each student’s age and ability.

Shoes: Pink Bloch full-sole ballet slippers

Apparel: Dancer’s choice of leotard

Tights: Mondor #310 classic pink tights

Hair: Pulled off the face in ponytail or bun

Dress Code: Boys

Shoes: White full-sole ballet slippers (Capezio or Bloch)

Apparel: Black shorts and white t-shirt

Socks: White socks

Jazz

Full-Year Technique Classes // Ages 8 to 18 years

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms. Our Progressions jazz class is offered for dancers aged 8 to 18 years and the curriculum is carefully designed to suit each student’s age and ability.

Shoes: Black Split Sole Elasta Booties, no laces (Bloch or Capezio)

Apparel: Dance leotard of dancer’s choice

Tights: Mondor #310 or #314 Suntan beige tights

Hair: Off the face in ponytail or bun

Lyrical Jazz

Full-Year Technique Classes // Ages 8 to 18 years

Lyrical jazz is a slow, expressive type of dance that incorporates ballet technique and aims to interpret a song’s lyrics through movement. Our Progressions lyrical jazz classes are offered for dancers aged 8 to 18 years and the curriculum is carefully designed to suit each student’s age and ability. No previous experience in lyrical dance is required, and it is recommended that dancers in this class also take jazz (either Progressions or Competitive).

Tap

Full-Year Technique Classes // Ages 8 to 18 years

Tap dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies. Our Progressions tap classes are offered for dancers aged 8 to 18 years and the curriculum is carefully designed to suit each student’s age and ability.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY 10 MONTH PROGRAM // SEPTEMBER TO JUNE
(Fine Arts Academy, Progressions Program, Adult Program, Competitive Program, Pre-Professional Program)

  • A parent/guardian must complete a cancellation form provided by Dance City one month in advance of your child’s withdrawal from a class or classes. 
  • After this notification in writing you are responsible for one additional month’s payment (i.e. if you submit cancellation form to Dance City on November 1st, you will pay for the November classes and your child will withdraw at the end of November) and the automatic monthly credit card charges will be cancelled for subsequent months. The 7th of the month is the cut-off date to notify of withdrawal. Any notification after the 7th of a month will hold you responsible for that month’s payment and the following month’s payment (i.e. if you submit cancellation for to Dance City on November 8th you are still responsible for your November payment as well as your December payment even if it is your intention to withdraw your child(ren) at the end of November).
  • Cancellations are not accepted for any classes after March 1st, NO REFUNDS will be given for the remaining months.
  • Registration fees and costume deposits are non refundable.
